The Long Yard Home lyrics - track 13

Sally Ann

Sally Ann was the singer in the band – Tommy was the drummer and he was her man
They played rock and roll till late every night – Didn’t sound too good but it felt all right
Sally was a waitress in the café by day – Tommy drove a cab for the dollars it paid
And they dreamed of being rock and roll stars – with big fancy houses and lots of fast cars
They dreamed of being rock and roll stars – Like Ziggy Stardust and those things from Mars
They dreamed of being rock and roll stars
One night late after a down town gig – a bloke wandered over and said she could be big
He needed a singer for an all girl band – Sally Ann would be famous all over the land
And she dreamed of being a super star – dreamed of the houses and the fast, fast cars
She wouldn’t need a drummer in her life – wouldn’t’ need to live a poor family life
She dreamed of being a super star – she dreamed she’d be a super star
And dreams could come true
Sally Ann made it big – an all girl star – owned several houses and drove her fast cars
Headlined with her lovers in the tabloid press – lived her life fast but it was all just a mess
She lived the life of a super star – but life is more than houses and fast, fast cars
She thought about Tommy and his small town life
Thought about his kids and his stay at home wife
But she was a super star – might not be perfect but she’d come so far – Dreams can come true
When you wish and dream your dreams – remember the life may not be all it seems
Sally Ann was famous but Tommy was sure – He was the richer while she remained poor
He still beat the drums in a Rock and Roll band – his kids and wife were his biggest fans
And he knew he was their biggest star – in his small town house and second hand car
He played his music with love for fun – loving family life under a mid west sun
And they dreamed they’d be rock and roll stars – one of them did and might have moved to Mars
They dreamed of being rock and roll stars - the other still played drums in local bars
Dreams can come true – Dreams can come true – Dreams can come true
